PROJECT SUMMARY

Downstream Demolition

Decommissioning & Demolition

Resolve Earthworks & Environmental Ltd. was awarded the contract to demolish a former service station and complete a test pitting program. The project posed technical challenges in that the site was located on a major City street, and the site building was within close proximity (0.5m) away from a building on a neighbouring property.

Resolve was selected based on overall price, past project experience, and strong safety record.

The project scope included the following:

  • Work in conjunction with the environmental consultant to develop the most cost-effective work plan.

  • Develop site-specific Demolition Plan to safely demolish the building without causing any damage to neighbouring building.

  • Removal of hazardous materials prior to demolition, including ozone-depleting substances, mercury bulbs and switches, and miscellaneous lubricants and cleaning products.

  • Demolish building, sort waste streams, process materials, load, transport and dispose of building waste and concrete foundations.

  • By sorting materials into recyclable and non-recyclable waste streams, Resolve was able to divert waste from landfill and save the client on disposal fees.

  • Drain oily waste from in-ground hoists and sump, transport offsite for disposal. Removal and disposal of hoists and sump.

  • Demolish yard light standards and overhead signs.

  • Complete test pitting program to collect soil samples around site.

  • Import, place, and track pack crushed gravel backfill.

  • Site restoration including final site cleanup and grading.
