PROJECT SUMMARY
Former Communication Tower Site Remediation
Remediation & Reclamation, Decommissioning & Demolition, Environmental Construction, Special Project

Resolve Earthworks & Environmental Ltd. was awarded the contract to remediate a former communication tower site located in a remote location in Northern Alberta. The tower site had been previously decommissioned, and the site required removal of contaminated soil to achieve reclamation targets.
The physical location of the site presented numerous challenges including: site access via ~60km of gravel road, including ~11km of winter ice road; long distance from any major city and/or landfill; and unpredictable local weather patterns and extreme cold work conditions due to winter-only access. Resolve was awarded the project based on its overall price and proposed work plan, as well as its safety record and proven capabilities on similar projects. The project scopes included the following:
Coordination with the environmental consultant and owner to develop a work plan agreeable to all parties.
Construction and maintenance of ~11km of winter access road for equipment and trucking for duration of project.
Test pitting program for delineation of contamination.
Excavation, stockpiling, loading, transport and disposal of ~1,700 tonnes of contaminated soil to a Class II landfill.
Supply & installation of liner to mark limits of excavation.
Excavation, processing, loading, transport and offsite disposal and/or recycling of concrete, debris, and metal encountered during excavation.
Removal of remaining infrastructure including steel pilings, buried cables, concrete anchor bases, and debris uncovered during excavation activities.
Backfill excavations with onsite clean cut/fill material.
Regrading and recontouring site.
Salvage topsoil from onsite and respread over area of excavation.
