PROJECT SUMMARY

Substation - Utility, Remediation & Civil Construction

Remediation & Reclamation, Environmental Construction, Pipeline Abandonment, Special Project

Resolve Earthworks & Environmental Ltd. was awarded the contract to execute on the phase 2 of the former Utilities company plant site. The scope of work included soil remediation and backfill, civil construction of access road, DFO laydown yard, substation extension, fencing installation and reclamation of disturbed areas. The site was considered Brownfield with due consideration to elevated safety protocols due to being an energized and in-service substation. Resolve was able to keep the project operational with minimal days lost due to any inclement weather.

Resolve was awarded the project based on its overall price and proposed work plan, as well as its safety record and proven capabilities on similar projects.

This project was executed under Parks Canada, Environment Canada as

well as Alberta Environment standards.

The project scope included the following:

  • Coordination with client, Parks Canada and environmental consultant to develop the most cost-effective work plan to complete the activities.

  • Hydrovac underground utilities and ground grid for tie-in.

  • Removal and disposal of onsite abandoned duct banks, piping and old sewer line and tank. Demolition and removal of old onsite structures.

  • Site excavation and remediation as per Remedial Action Plan (RAP).

  • Construct substation extension, including site grading, geotextile, compaction of onsite and imported materials, insulating rock, ground grid tie-in and grounding wells.

  • Construction of new DFO laydown area, site grading, installation of geotextile, supply, deliver, place and compact imported material as per design.

  • Construction of access road, including new culvert installation.

  • Supply, deliver and place topsoil for ditch-line and disturbed areas as per Parks Canada requirements. (2025)

  • Supply, deliver and installation of new site fencing. Tie in ground grid to new fence.
